"Reading in Jinan: A Youthful Perspective" Cultural Sharing Event for Chinese and International Readers Successfully Organized

On November 22, the "Reading in Jinan: A Youthful Perspective" cultural sharing event for Chinese and international readers, organized by the Jinan Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China Publicity Department, Jinan Municipal Education Bureau, and Jinan Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and hosted by the Jinan International Communication Center, was successfully held at the Spring City Study. The event brought together numerous international and Chinese youth, scholars, and culture enthusiasts for in-depth exchanges revolving around reading and cross-cultural dialogue.
The event kicked off in a warm reading atmosphere. Liu Yuetan, Postdoctoral Fellow of the University of Missouri and Professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Shandong University, delivered a keynote speech titled The Significance and Value of Effective Reading. From the perspectives of cultural communication and brand strategy, he analyzed the ideological logic and social value of reading. He emphasized that reading is not only a way to acquire knowledge, but also an important means to bridge cultural differences and build spiritual resonance.

In the Chinese and foreign youth reading sharing session, Fang Fang, an international student from Jordan, Mu Wenjun, an international student from Kenya, Yang Min, Brand Director of Zhengshantang Chaoran Hong, and Li Zhen, Member of the Huaiyin District Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference , shared their reading stories and cultural reflections together.
Fang Fang chose Lun Yu as her recommended book, thinking this classic is "a key to understanding the behavior and cultural roots of Chinese people"; Mu Wenjun recommended To Live and Camel Xiangzi, stating that "through these works, one can see China's historical changes and the resonance of human nature". Yang Min explained the integration of tea culture and philosophy of life by combining The Classic of Tea, while Li Zhen emphasized the significance of reading for teenagers' growth from the perspective of educational practice.
In the interactive session, Chinese and foreign readers engaged in enthusiastic discussions on topics such as "the international dissemination of Chinese literature" and "cultural differences and emotional resonance". A young reader expressed: "Through books, we can not only go out into the world but also let the world see us."
During the event, Yang Xiaobo, Second-level Researcher of the Press and Publication Division of Publicity Department of the CPC Jinan Municipal Committee, awarded letters of appointment as "Spring City Cultural Promotion Ambassadors" to representatives of Chinese and foreign youth, encouraging them to take books as bridge to continuously spread Jinan's stories and China's voice.
It is reported that "Reading in Jinan" is an important brand activity of Jinan to promote nationwide reading and build a culturally strong city. In the future, Jinan International Communication Center will continue to help make "Reading in Jinan" a cultural card that connects China and foreign countries and warms the city.
