During the May Day holiday, the “Blazing Youth” themed event at Jinan’s 709 Cultural Industrial Park ignited a wave of enthusiasm among visitors. Centered on revolutionary culture, retro-era aesthetics, and trendy immersive experiences, the park adopted an innovative “everyone is an NPC” concept, becoming Shandong’s first revolutionary tourism destination without traditional staff roles. By integrating revolutionary history tours, immersive period performances, intangible cultural heritage experiences, and lively street markets, the park created a brand-new cultural tourism experience and quickly emerged as one of Jinan’s hottest holiday destinations.

Throughout the holiday, the special “Youth League Assembly” activity attracted large numbers of visitors. Registered Youth League members aged 14 to 28 could redeem admission passes using their membership credentials or digital certificates, combining revolutionary culture education with vintage costume experiences and youth social interaction, while promoting a spirited and energetic atmosphere.

The park also staged a series of immersive performances, including Hello 709, Half a Jin of Grain Coupons, Love in the Era of the Three Big Household Items, and Commendation Conference. These productions vividly recreated the atmosphere of China’s “Third Front” construction era, allowing visitors to experience history firsthand while gaining a deeper appreciation of the spirit of the times.

Nighttime tourism became one of the festival’s biggest highlights. The hugely popular Hongxing Barbecue Street buzzed with energy as authentic barbecue stalls, live music performances, and spirited singing competitions kept crowds entertained late into the evening. Combined with immersive lighting installations and interactive performances, the park delivered a vibrant nighttime atmosphere. Visitors could also collect stamps around the park to redeem barbecue vouchers, creating an all-in-one entertainment experience that significantly boosted nighttime visitor numbers and injected fresh momentum into the holiday economy.

In addition, the park launched a wide range of activities, including workers’ sports games, intangible cultural heritage workshops, hidden NPC story missions, retro residential courtyard markets, and youth-themed photo walls. Nostalgic games such as hoop rolling and pitch-pot revived childhood memories, while traditional crafts like tie-dyeing, movable-type printing, and relief printing showcased enduring craftsmanship. The retro-style market featured specialty foods and creative cultural products, while the iconic red-brick factory buildings became social media favorites, drawing visitors of all ages into the immersive atmosphere.

As a cultural park preserving the historical memory of China’s “Small Third Front” industrial development, Jinan 709 Cultural Industrial Park continues to explore the rich legacy of red culture and industrial heritage. By constantly innovating its experiences, expanding cultural offerings, and improving visitor services, the park has successfully achieved both social and economic benefits through this year’s May Day celebration, demonstrating the powerful vitality of integrated cultural and tourism development.
